PROJECT OVERVIEW
The client was in the middle of a redesign of their company HR portal and needed to update their Employee Handbook as well. The handbook was a standalone tool that would be replacing the annual printout of the same material – in most cases, content that had not even been updated. They requested the new Handbook align with the company brand strategy, but did not want the solution to be limited to some of the requirements necessary for the HR portal project. The company fully expected the digital handbook to be used in a mobile environment and wanted to optimize the design as such.
CHALLENGES
Even though the Handbook was a stand-alone solution, it still needed to feel like it fit in seamlessly next to the company portal rebrand. I worked closely with the company HR department and the portal design team to define a design approach that helped maintain a visual congruity with the HR portal.

SOLUTION
Applying a more “mobile-first” approach, the client was given a manageable site structure, creative standards and base page “templates” meant to ensure a consistent user experience when the full Handbook was built out and all the HR policy content was migrated into the new solution.
SCOPE DELIVERABLES
The client was provided creative strategy documents, high-fidelity designs, functional prototypes and new “template” design assets. Since the client was building the final solution in-house, they were also provided detailed design specs, solution red-lines and a final design standards document.
