Created a new design approach for the Johnson & Johnson internal HR portal.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The client engaged with me to provide a design strategy proof-of-concept for a revised manager’s HR portal.  While the client had a strong commercial presence and a consistent external creative strategy, they had very limited branded consideration for their internal HR manager’s portal.  The current portal, while an established property, was not considered a valuable content or service destination with the company managers.  The current portal was an OOTB platform installation that did not follow the established corporate brand guidelines, had multiple navigation paradigms, inconsistent page layouts and no recognizable content hierarchy.

CHALLENGES

Because the project was a proof-of-concept, the client put very limited restrictions on the final design outcome.  However, tangible project parameters were set after extensive requirements gathering and deep review of manager needs, the corporate digital leadership strategy, company brand guidelines and various company digital properties.

SOLUTION

The creative designs were created to align with a comprehensive creative strategy produced to align the new Portal closely with the positive association of the company culture and established brand within the organization.  The design would present a consistent tone – both visually, in terms of look and feel and of “voice”, in terms of content.  The design also defined the use of content hierarchy to improve findability and mobile interaction.

SCOPE DELIVERABLES

Upon completion of the concept, the client was provided UX and design strategy documents, high-fidelity designs, functional prototypes and content hierarchy recommendations.  The client was also given a final design standards document in case they chose to extend the POC into a working concept.
