PROJECT OVERVIEW
The client previously launched a generic employee HR portal company wide and they now wanted to modify the solution with access, content and functionality specific to their manager user-group within the organization. The manager role was defined as anyone performing leadership related services, programs and initiatives and included actions related to sensitive staff information, prospective hires and employee departures. This specific access-point within the HR portal would be a single-stop dashboard and activity center for manager related information and talent processes.
This new manager experience, while considered an extension of the original employee portal, had specialized requirements that supported a refinement of the design and structure of the previous site. It now needed to be a rebranded, rich and interactive experience that was intuitive to use and had the least amount of content “overhead”. The scaled solution planned to increase the use of rich multi-media, data, analytics and social tools with accessibility for mobile devices.
CHALLENGES
The client wanted an innovative new approach for the manager’s experience, but there needed to be a balance between significant design changes and enhanced manager experiences. Solid project requirements helped advance many significant changes, but constant communication and iterative collaborations with the project stakeholders mitigated many “surprises” that could have derailed meaningful exchanges during project delivery milestones.

SOLUTION
The manager’s experience was designed and managed as a business solution for HR before it was a technology solution. The design leveraged technology to enable a wider range of business capabilities, prioritized and contextualized by business requirements and ideas based on business outcomes and impacts. The solution leaned heavily on the business, to deliver on Prudential’s goals of operationalizing its people strategy in the business units and by business leaders.
The final design helped get managers actively engaged in their people management role within the organization. As well as helping enable more innovative thinking on teams by improving performance assessment with real-time project and performance data. The solution also provided support for succession planning as a proactive activity to more easily plan for people moving through the organization.
SCOPE DELIVERABLES
The client was provided UX strategy documents, user personas, high-fidelity designs, functional prototypes and responsive design solutions. Since the client was building the final solution in-house, they were also provided a detailed standards document aligned with the prototypes created.
